More Than Enough-Book Review

Want to grow? Read this one!

Dave Ramsey gives excellent advice in More Than Enough. There is more to life than saving and making money.

His bestseller, Total Money Makeover, is a great reference if you’re trying to get out of debt. That book lays out simple steps that lead to financial freedom, and ultimately got us started on our debt free journey.

But this book (More Than Enough), takes it to a whole new level!

The book is advertised as ten keys to changing your financial destiny.

But I found this book not to be so much focused on the financial part of life, but more importantly, your character and virtue, and how it comes together for you to find your purpose and direction in life.

How we need a vision that is rooted in values because that’s the only kind of vision that will last.

Goals are the work clothes of a vision.

There’s things in my life that I’d like to change, character flaws I see in myself (and some I didn’t see before reading this book!) that Dave Ramsey writes about.

He puts things into perspective, and teaches how to improve.

That’s really important to me. For just to know where I fail doesn’t help me a lot. I need to know how to overcome.

‘Work is doing it, Discipline is doing it every day, and diligence is doing it WELL every day’ – Dave Ramsey.

This hit me pretty hard. I can work, but it’s the disciple and diligence where I mess up pretty bad! Proverbs 21:5 says “The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteous, but every one that is hasty only to want.” Don’t we live in a world of instant gratification? Being hasty leads only to want. We need diligence and disciple in our lives.

‘Diligence is consistent excellence’ –Dave Ramsey

I also found child training advice in this book, although I don’t think that was his intention. He talks about how they didn’t give their children allowances, instead gave them commissions. You work, you get paid. We need to teach our children, and be a role model for them.

Patience, Contentment, and Happiness are all keys to the More Than Enough life.

This book contains an overview at the end of each chapter, to refresh and put the things you’ve learned all together. Dave Ramsey might have built his empire on financial coaching, but his biggest strength lies in being a motivational speaker/writer!
