Meditating on bible verses, reading what God’s Word says, can help us overcome discouragement.
Are you going through a period of your life when you just feel like giving up? Recently I was feeling extremely discouraged. Life seemed to be an impossibility. There were things going on where it felt that life was never going to get better.
God seemed so far away. I was reminded of 2 Corinthians 1:8, where it says “we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch we despaired even of life.”
Mentally I despaired of life, not physically, but spiritually and mentally. God has not given us the spirit of fear but of love, of power, and of a SOUND MIND. My mind was not very sound at that point!
Then I realized that these were lies that I was believing. I was believing that God had forsaken me, that he did not care about me, nor love me. In an effort to overcome this, I turned to scripture. I knew that this pressing about my soul was not of God, and I knew that he would help me overcome and give the strength to go on.
I searched for Bible Verses for discouragement and despair. When you feel like giving up, the best place to go is God’s Word. He will help and encourage us when we BELIEVE his promises
Discouragement Not a Sign Of Moral Failure
I have yet to meet someone that does not struggle with discouragement. In 1 Kings 19:4, Elijah the prophet was feeling discouraged, weary, and afraid. After many battles, he too was fearful and depressed.
Jeremiah cursed the day he was born. He did not understand why he should see all the trouble and sorrow, and to end his days with shame.
Everyone gets weary of the battle. How we act upon our faith, is what helps us to become an Overcomer.
I was encouraged by this quote from Billy Graham, an American evangelist that was well known and loved by many people.
The Christian life is not a constant high. I have my moments of deep discouragement. I have to go to God in prayer with tears in my eyes, and say, ‘O God, forgive me,’ or ‘Help me.‘
